First I want to address the elephant in the room: I’m not currently single. I posted this video last year before I started my blog and since it’s such a hot button topic around this year I wanted to address it.
I may be in a relationship now, but I’ve spent meany Valentine’s Day’s alone. And for a long time that depressed me a lot. I felt like I was never going to find anyone, no one wanted to be with me, etc. And really where that stemmed from was my self esteem.
I have a video about confidence and self-esteem in the works so I’m not going to go into too much detail on what I think the big things that changed for me were. What I will say is that when I was able to accept that I’m an awesome person and having a SO wasn’t a measure of how cool I was, not only was I perfectly fine not having a date on Valentin’s Day, but boyfriends started falling in my lap. Almost literally, it seems.
I met my boyfriend Lylanthia through a volunteer organization that we’re both a part of. (OK…it’s an Anime convention. But before some of you skeptics start thinking we’re lame nerds, just know that we were both on the board of directors. That’s right, we’re awesome nerds!) I only recently found out that a ton of the guys I knew through there had huge crushes on me but never got up the nerve to ask me out.
Basically what I’m trying to say before you go ahead and watch the video is that all of this is still totally relevant and I stand by it 100%.
Just remember: you are awesome just the way you are! Don’t let a stupid holiday dictate your self worth, OK?
